Frequently Asked Questions

TRAINEESHIPS

What is a traineeship?

Traineeships are a combination of paid work and formal training delivered by a Registered Training Organisation. This basically means you can "learn while you earn!"

New workers and those who are existing staff can undertake traineeships, even if you feel you do not need any training. A trainee enters into a formal training contract with his/her employer for the duration of the traineeship.

Traineeships are nationally recognised. When a trainee successfully completes the traineeship, they receive a nationally recognised Certificate of Proficiency and a Certificate and/or Statement of Attainment from the Registered Training Organisation. These certificates are nationally recognised and equivalent to what you would get at TAFE.

Is participation compulsory?

A Participant can choose whether or not to participate in the Traineeship Program and as such, if the employer has decided to implement training and/or assessment in the workplace, therefore your participation, although not compulsary, should will be in line with an employers request.

What If I don’t need training?

The training component of your traineeship may include training and/or assessment. This means that if you have skills and knowledge that you have acquired in the workplace then these will be recognised and you will receive a formal Certificate and/or Statement of Attainment.

Other Benefits

  • The traineeship doesn’t cost you anything; employer's generally receive government funding that covers the costs
  • Training is conducted in the workplace, the trainer comes to you, no personal time required
  • Upon successful completion of the traineeship, participants will be issued with a Nationally Recognised Qualification
  • Training will help develop/confirm skills and knowledge, and
  • Increased career opportunities, long term prospects and earning potential

What are the hours I need to work?

Traineeships have eligibility criteria and a member of an Australian Apprenticeship centre will determine if you are eligible. In saying this, your employer may want to put you onto a training program anyway.

How much work is involved?

The work will require commitment and dedication from yourself as you will be the one ultimately benefitting from training. Your training program is developed with you and/or your employer and the agreed program usually includes some work that you have to complete in between visits from your trainer.

Are there any exams?

Whilst there are assessments required to complete the program there is no “Pass or Fail”. The assessments are required to confirm your competency with evidence. Where you do not have the required evidence then you will be given further time and/or training.

Just Careers Training offers flexible modes/options in assessment. For example the option to write your answers to questions yourself in your workbooks, or for those who have difficulty with writing English, the trainer can ask the questions verbally and record the answers for you.

As an RTO we will however have to maintain the required standards set by industry and agreed to by your employer so your assessment may also involve;

  • Observing you doing your job!
  • Asking you to demonstrate a task
  • Asking you to collect evidence from your workplace relating to the training program
  • Ask your supervisor to confirm your abilities

Trainer Visits

The time and frequency of your trainer visits will be guided by your current experience, your employer’s requirements, the standards required for your program and rules relating to traineeships. Visits usually occur every 4-8 weeks and the time spent with your trainer each time ranges from 1-4 hours. Your trainer may see you individually or in a group with other staff at your organisation. Training will be done during work hours which will be organised by management and your trainer.

What happens now?

If you are enrolled in our programs then you will be formally inducted and your training and/or assessment will begin. At induction the program will be discussed again, you will be informed of the arrangements for your program and you will have the chance to ask any questions. You will also get a copy of the plan detailing your training arrangements.
