Overview

Successful completion of the Diploma of Leadership & Management will equip you with the skills and knowledge needed to achieve and progress your career goals in management. 

Leading, inspiring and managing people and working with and improving systems and processes, holders of this qualification display initiative and judgement in planning, organising, implementing and monitoring their own workload and the workload of others. They use communication skills to support individuals and teams to meet organisational or enterprise requirements. 

Who should do this course?

You should enrol into this course if

  • You in a supervisory role and want to take that next step into human resource management. OR
  • You have experience (current or previous) in an office / corporate environment and want the credentials to take you to the next step OR
  • You would like to work as a Human Resource Manager of an organisation, branch or department.
Are there any Pre-Requisites

Yes, in order to enrol into this qualification our enrolment officer must first approve your application.

Your application will be approved if you meet the Just Careers Training –Student Entry Procedure

In summary:

  • You must hold a Year 12 certificate or equivalent
  • Have completed a Certificate IV (or higher) in Australia

If you have not completed a Year 12 then you may demonstrate competence at Exit Level 3 in the Australian Core Skills Framework in both reading and numeracy through an approved Language, Literacy and Numeracy test (we arrange this test for you).

Delivery Mode

This course is available online and by way of Print Correspondence.

  • Online courses include accessing your learning resources and assessments online. It also allows for submissions of your completed assessments online.
  • Print Correspondence Mode courses involve receiving your course materials by post, and submitting your completed assessments by post.

Both these Distance Learning Modes (Online or Print) include the full support of an approved and qualified trainer and the team at Just Careers Training.

When does the course commence?

The course commences when you’re ready!

You will be able to nominate a commencement date in the enrolment process.

How long does the course take?

The course commences on the date nominated by you in the enrolment process. You will have 12 months to complete the course requirements.

This course is a Self-Paced course meaning that you may move as quickly or as slowly as you like, but you must complete the course within 12 months.

As a guide, depending on your current competencies, life/work experience and your literacy level, you would need to spend up to 20 hours per week to meet the requirements of this course within the 12 months (this includes taking breaks and holidays).

Assessments designed to assess your competency will be conducted throughout the course and may include:

The indicative cost of this course is $ 4,998. The fees required are divided into the 3 Units of Study (UOS) or modules that make up this course. The fee per module is $ 1,666.

If you are undertaking this course and paying the fees yourself (either in full or as part of a Payment Plan) then the fee for each module is payable prior to commencing the Module.

If you are undertaking this course using a Vet Student Loan (for all or part of the fee applicable), the Fees are not payable (or you will not incur a debt) unless you have commenced the UOS and the Census Date has passed.

Managers who hold this competency have the ability to effectively manage the work of others and operate within the parameters of a broader strategic and/or business plan. The task of the manager at this level is to develop and implement an operational plan to ensure that work teams meet the objectives and strategies outlined in the strategic and/or business plan. In some larger organisation’s operational plans may be developed by a strategic planning unit.

Managers work in positions of authority may be approved to implement change in part of or across the organisation, business unit, and program or project area. Risk is inherent in all organisations and is a result if action and/or inaction. Holders of this competency will be able to manage risks in a range of contexts across an organisation or for a specific business unit or area in any industry setting.

Ensure a safe workplace
Managers that hold this competency take a systems based approach and address compliance with relevant Workplace Health and Safety legislative requirements.  Holders of this unit have the skills and knowledge required to establish, maintain and evaluate the organisation’s work health and safety (WHS) policies, procedures and programs in the relevant work area, according to WHS legislative requirements.  This unit applies to managers working in a range of contexts who have, or are likely to have responsibility for WHS as part of their broader management role. It is relevant for people with obligations under WHS legislation, for example persons conducting a business or undertaking (PCBUs) or officers, as defined by relevant legislation.

Develop and use emotional intelligence

This unit covers the development and use of emotional intelligence to increase self-awareness, self-management, social awareness and relationship management in the context of the workplace. It includes identifying the impact of own emotions on others in the workplace, recognising and appreciating the emotional strengths and weaknesses of others, promoting the development of emotional intelligence in others and utilising emotional intelligence to maximise team outcomes. Managers that hold this competency identify, analyse, synthesise and act on information from a range of sources and who deal with unpredictable problems. They use initiative, judgement to organise the work of self and others and plan, evaluate, and co-ordinate the work of teams.

Organisations will only thrive if they have managers that lead and manage effective workplace relationships. This unit describes the skills and knowledge required for this important managerial competency. At this level work will normally be carried out within complex and diverse methods and procedures, which require the exercise of considerable discretion and judgement, using a range of problem solving and decision making strategies

It applies to individuals working in managerial positions who have excellent organisational skills. The work ethic of individuals in this role has a significant impact on the work culture and patterns of behaviour of others as managers at this level are role models in their work environment.

When managing people, effective managers make the link between performance management and performance development, and they reinforce both functions as a key requirement for effective managers. This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to manage the performance of staff who report to them directly. Development of key result areas and key performance indicators and standards, coupled with regular and timely coaching and feedback, provide the basis for performance management. Managers cover work allocation, methods to review performance, reward excellence and provide feedback where there is a need for improvement.

Particular emphasis is on the development of strategies to facilitate and promote learning and to monitor and improve learning performance. This unit will support the skills and knowledge required in encouraging, supporting and facilitating the development of a learning environment in which work and learning come together.

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to manage planning in relation to an organisation's workforce including researching requirements, developing objectives and strategies, implementing initiatives and monitoring and evaluating trends. It applies to individuals who are human resource managers or staff members with a role in a policy or planning unit that focuses on workforce planning.

VET Student Loans

The VET Student Loans program is an Australian Government loan program that helps eligible students enrolled in approved courses at approved course providers pay their tuition fees.
 
If you are an eligible student the Department of Education and Training (the department) may approve your VET Student Loan (for all or part of the course fees – it’s your choice) for an approved course through an approved provider.
 
Just Careers Training is an approved provider and its Diploma level qualifications are approved courses!
 
The department will pay your loan directly to Just Careers Training. The rules of the loans state that you will be responsible for any gap amount in the tuition fees, which are not covered by the loan.
 
Just Careers Training is proud to offer our approved courses with no gap payment required.
 
You will owe a debt to the Australian Government for the loan, which will be managed by the Australian Taxation Office (ATO). You can either:
  • Repay all your tuition loan fees (up to the loan cap limit) when your income reaches the repayment threshold (this refers to how much you earn)
  • Pay some of your tuition loan fees upfront and repay the balance when your income reaches the repayment threshold.
Eligibility to access this loan is not affected by your current employment status of if you are on any benefits or entitlements, however other eligibility criteria does apply (see the next tab)
It is important to note that VET Student Loans assistance is a loan from the Commonwealth and that there is a loan fee of 20%.
 
The loan will remain as a personal debt obligation until it is repaid to the Commonwealth.
