Just Careers Training offers Refresher Training in the area of scheduled medicines.

This refresher course is based on the unit of competency ‘SIRPPKS001A Support the sale of pharmacy and pharmacist only medicines".

Participants will also cover the following areas;

S2/S3 (general refresher)
Allergies and Allergy Medicines
Analgesic and Anti-inflammatory Medicines
Cough and Cold products
Gastrointestinal Conditions and Medicines

Who is this course suitable for?

It is designed for both those who already work in pharmacy and would like to have their skills and knowledge updated and/or formally recognised, as well as for those wishing to enter into a career as a Community Pharmacy Assistant .

The course also meets QCPP Pharmacy Assistants training requirements and will contribute towards a full qualification in both Certificate II and Certificate III in Pharmacy.

All our courses require that some tasks be undertaken in the workplace and under the supervision of the pharmacist. If you are not currently working in pharmacy then please contact us for options.

Outcomes

Participants who complete this course will have gained and or confirmed the following skills and knowledge relating to the role and responsibility of a Pharmacy Assistant when dealing with scheduled medicines (and chosen focus area if applicable);

Interpersonal communication skills to:
- Communicate with the customer including obtaining and providing information and confirming understanding through clear and direct communication
- Ask questions to identify and confirm requirements
- Use language and concepts appropriate to cultural differences
- Use and interpret non-verbal communication
Apply literacy skills to read and interpret information on product labels and record customer information
Maintain privacy and confidentiality of customer information
Demonstrate procedures for selling pharmacy and pharmacist only medicines consistent with pharmacy protocols and procedures
Access and use information systems as required by the role.

Pharmacy policies, protocols and procedures relating to pharmacy and pharmacist only medicines
Systems for scheduling medicines
Role of the therapeutic goods administration (TGA) in approving sale of new medicines
Role of the national drugs and poisons schedule committee (NDPSC) in scheduling medicines
Types of scheduled medicine
Legal requirements and pharmacy procedures for positioning and advertising scheduled items within a pharmacy
Sources of information on scheduled medicines
Common problems or health conditions for which pharmacy or pharmacist only medicines are used
Common medicine terminology
Health privacy principles
An understanding of the concept of evidence based assessment of the efficacy of products and levels of evidence
Role boundaries and responsibilities, and circumstances under which referral to a pharmacist or other pharmacy staff is required.

Successful Completion of the course will result in the participant being issued a Certificate of Participation for the course.

This option involves logging in to the Just Careers Training Online Training Portal. To undertake this course online then you should consider the following;

1. You must have access to a PC (or similar) with internet connection
2. You must have a valid email address for correspondence and registering for the course

Once enrolled you will receive user name and login details.

In your course you will have access to;

all the learning resources required to refresh your knowledge required to operate competently as a Pharmacy Assistant when it comes to dealing with scheduled medicines.

Workplace

If you prefer to complete your refresher training with a qualified trainer in the pharmacy or at our training facility, or you would like to do your course together with your colleagues this option may be suitable for you.

This option is also suitable for owners/managers who want to ensure that staff receive their training in a group environment to ensure participation and completion.

During the session, participants will be involved in;

learning activities including role plays and presentations
